Our landscaping ponds are an excellent way to enhance the landscape of your yard or garden. When we talk about “patio ponds”, they are designed to look like a patio and will be placed in front of a deck, gazebo or on top of an existing, flat surface. Landscape Ponds and Fountains are a new and emerging type of landscaping item that was originally developed as a means of creating water gardens. Essentially, they are ponds that are filled with water which look like pebbles, stones, etc., but are deep enough so that a small pond pump is not required.
Our Artistic Pond has become a very popular product. It was designed to create a beautiful backyard setting with the added bonus of being a pond. The product was created in a new manner that was revolutionary, it took the “septic system” approach to create a backyard pond. This type of system was unheard of at the time and has been a real boon for garden backyard landscaping.
Landscaping ponds are also referred to as garden beds, pond edgings, lawn ponds, or water gardens. The primary goal of this type of landscaping is to improve the appearance of the landscape, provide comfort and practical use of existing water resources. They are often created to restore or rehabilitate land that has been devastated by natural disasters such as tornadoes, hurricanes, flooding, snow storms, or weed infestations. The secondary goal is to add value to the home, by increasing the marketable property value of the home. If you want to know “how well placed” your landscaping ponds are covered by insurance, then read on…
First, there are two types of “coverings” that are used in landscaping ponds. Shady areas should have a light layer of vegetation to block out the afternoon sun. Shade the shady areas will help keep excess moisture (humidity) from building up in the deeper pond. Water plants are great for shady areas. Deciduous plants are best for sunny areas. These aquatic plants shade the water by partially blocking sunlight and shading the pond.
Secondly, you should protect your garden pond from winds that blow over the pond. Depending on where you live, this can be a little tricky. In Florida, it is usually a good idea to plant a palm tree next to the pond, as they love to sweep the leaves off of the trees. Wind can cause a lot of damage to anything placed too close to it, so keep it a little distance away. Patio umbrellas are also a great little tool in helping to shade your garden pond.
If you are landscaping a large garden or pond with pavers, make sure you have trolleys available to move the dirt and lay down the concrete when the pavers are ready. Pavers are great for landscaping ponds because they are relatively inexpensive. Just remember to keep them moving. Also, consider the problem of roots growing down through the paver and into your new garden bed. You can dig a hole in the bottom of the hole, put the pond in, then add some larger garden beds or grass to provide more of a cushion for the roots.
Landscaping with pavers, and any other form of landscape design is very easy once you learn what types of landscape features you need and how to manipulate the elements around you to make the area look natural. Landscaping with pavers is just one way to use these tools to make a yard look natural. Landscaping with pavers, especially large paver stones, is also a great way to add some greenery to an otherwise dull yard. If you haven’t landscaped your pond before, consider hiring a landscape designer who has experience using pavers and other landscape features to create a beautiful and unique pond for your backyard. You can do the final planning yourself if you are really confident, or you can pay someone to do it for you. Either way, you will have a perfectly landscaped garden pond.
