Calla lily is a popular flower for landscaping with flowers. They are also used frequently for landscaping roses. If you want to give a unique landscaping effect to your flower garden, plant calla lily in many places. It will create an exotic look and feel to your garden, and it is easy to maintain.
You can plant calla lily bulbs either indoors or out of doors, in a garden or backyard. In cooler climates you can also grow them as annuals, perennials or just dig them up annually and replant them in the spring. Annuals need to be mulched a couple of months after planting. Perennial bulbs do not need mulching. Since they bloom for only one year, you do not have to mulch. However, they do need to be covered during the winter.
Each plant has its own scientific name, such as Aethiopica pulcherrima or Aethiopica purchasi. This means “purchasome flower”, which according to the scientific name does not have leaves, stems or a scent. Its scientific name also means that it blooms on the morning of the day of the first day of the month of August, in southern Africa. The beautiful aethiopica calla lily flower has large dark purple flowers that contain numerous petals, which are about two to three inches long. The flowers have the appearance of scales and are normally found growing on shady areas of wooded land.
The calla lily flower grows best in a rich soil with lots of light. In the southern United States it is hard to find this plant. But in Asia, this plant has been a part of the Chinese culture for many years. In addition, the Indian and Sri Lankan cultures use the calla lily flower in cooking. There are many recipes in these countries where the calla lily flower is used as a flavoring for food. Other cultures, such as the Egyptians, have used the flower in embalming and burial rites.
To plant the calla lily, it must be planted in a warm climate with lots of sunlight. It will grow just about anywhere except that it grows best in heavy clay soils. It will take about four years to flower and reach its full height. Once fully grown, the flower will need to be watered very rarely. If it is left in its natural state, the calla lily will die back to the light shade of the soil, and the new top layer will develop.
In the spring you will need to dig up the dead flowers and put them into the hole in the center of the pot. This will help your plants stay healthy until the weather becomes cold. In the fall, you will have to replant your calla lily flower bulbs into the holes in the base of the pot. Make sure that you water the roots thoroughly before putting them in the holes.
You may have to repeat your calla lily every year or two. This is because you tend to get a lot of growth in the winter. Because it has a shallow root system, it can get buried under the snow, which causes it to rot more easily. Repotting is easy if you spread the roots evenly across the surface of the potting soil. When the bulbs are ready to be planted, place them about one inch below the top of the soil.
Calla lily flowers do very well in pots and containers. They can survive temperatures as low as -5 degrees Fahrenheit and do not require a lot of sunlight to thrive. When you take good care of your plants, they will reward you with beautiful flowers for many years.
